Meaning of the Moon in Astrology
The Moon in astrology represents our relationship with our mother, the state of our physical/ emotional body, and what we need to feel satisfied.
In esoteric astrology, it is said that the soul is trapped in the sign the moon is in. Meaning, the placement of the moon in the natal chart indicates how we express ourselves when feeling insecure. There’s a tendency to manipulate to reap emotional satisfaction instead of confessing emotional needs. There are sensitivities about certain aspects of life and can lead to abuse in vices such as food, people, status, or things when triggered.
Despite the fact that it is where the soul hides, it is also where we can find our greatest strength. Through understanding our natal Moon, we can address internal needs and integrate with the unseen parts of ourselves.
By nourishing our emotional needs daily, we are free to connect with others and provide intimacy, acceptance and nonverbal care.
Daily Struggle
If you have Leo moon in the eighth house, you struggle with the need for emotional validation from those who are financially or sexually involved with you. You look for ways to improve your financial and material circumstances through others and it oftentimes leaves you feeling powerless and resentful. You easily attract partners or clients with charisma, yet struggle with power and control due to conflicting desires and motivations. This becomes a vicious cycle because what each person is after is something that is innate and can not be bought or won with status or any other means.
As you invest in intimate relationships more is at stake. You tend to give in to the other’s desires without much thought due to wanting to secure your role in the relationship. You want to feel important and the perfect match for the other at all times. Yet, this unrealistic desire consumes you and inevitably makes you display your emotions in dramatic ways when you feel the relationship is at risk. This can either distract your partner from feeling their own emotions because they feel they must tend to yours, or they become standoffish and you feel like you have to do the same too. This deep and hidden power struggle manifests in your intimate relationships because of unresolved relations with your mother or maternal figure.
Connection to Mother
Your relationship with your mother was dramatic, to say the least. She did not hold back in what she felt and demanded you to give your undivided attention as she went about her spiels and dramatic displays. She is strong, creative, social, entertaining, and larger than life. She was your example of how to survive any trauma with a strong will and stubborn attitude.
As you gave her what she wanted, it made you feel less than and deeply wounded. Although she loved you, thought highly of you, and expected great things from you, you felt underappreciated and not seen for who you are. This is the case because you were not allowed to express your emotions when she was in your presence. Your emotions were “too dramatic” or “exaggerated” and made you feel unacceptable. These unresolved emotions creep into your relationship with your spouse, clients, and in-laws. But if you acknowledge your emotional needs for safety and creative flair, you are a step closer to having the fulfilling relationships that you desire.
Emotional Needs
For you to feel emotionally secure and safe, you need to feel special and capable of being creative. Creative expression and being seen for who you are is very important. You hold a wealth of emotions and psychic abilities that need an unaltered creative outlet so that they can continually flow and benefit others.
One way to do this is to take it upon yourself to empower yourself. Like the sun (your moon’s ruler), you do not need anything or anyone to show what you are made of. Do not expect someone to come in and shine the light on you because with this moon, you are here to learn how to do that for yourself.
The amount of power that you have draws people to you and keeps them feeling warm and safe to confide in you. But if you think that they are there to benefit you or bring you value that wasn’t there before, you will soon find this to be false. You must be aware of yours and the other’s motivation of merging together to ensure the match is mutually beneficial.
If you fail to value your creativity and emotions, you attract the wrong relationships and will soon feel trapped and relive the relationship that you had with your mother.
How to Integrate
Honor your need to be creative and let that sustain you and bring relationships, material, emotional, and financial security. When you follow your creative spark, you’ll find that you are a creative leader to others. You channel what the other needs and become a guiding force for them to see as a great example.
As you learn to forgive and show compassion to yourself and others, they will soon respect you and show emotional loyalty.
You deeply understand the creative process but must practice it daily and show what it takes to be great and special. Not for the sake of egoic fulfillment, but for an appreciation of being alive.
